The U.S. stock indexes are presently in price uptrends on the daily bar charts and are not far below the highs for the year. The old trading adage that stock indexes like to “climb a wall of worry” seems to be holding true, given today’s macro-economic and geopolitical environment. However, there’s another old trading adage that should be on traders’ and investors’ minds: “Sell in May and go away.” That old saying suggests that quieter summertime trading conditions can lead to stock market malaise or even price weakness—until after the Labor Day holiday until early September.
